Apparently I wasn't clear in my previous post about comment moderation as I received a couple of emails from people who believe that I am under an obligation to post their comments, however smugly snide they are.
So this doesn't apply to 99.9 percent of the people who come here. But for that .1 percent, let's go over it slow, and I will use small words. This is my blog. I determine content. If I don't like your comment for whatever reason, I won't post it. I don't have to explain. I don't have to be fair. If you don't like it, don't come here. Why is this so difficult to understand? Apparently you want attention of some sort. You won't get it here. Move on.
This is all the time I'm going to spend on this. I've changed my filter so that emails from those people will simply go straight to the spam filter. This is my final, high-handed, undemocratic word on it.

Dude, I totally understand this. I'm sorry people are giving you a hard time. People like that aren't your friends. People like that aren't anyone's friends. You do whatever it takes to keep you posting on this blog. I enjoy it and would miss it if it was gone.
That isn't un-democratic. That's discretion, and you have every right to be discrete.
I think comment moderation is a good idea. I used it for a time, but due to my schedule I found it more of a hassle than it was worth. If I had the time to sit here and monitor my e-mail all day long, I would still be using it.
Uh....dude....at the risk of being banned, may i make one suggestion? If you have comment moderation, you no longer need the word verification. ;)
Thanks, Slim, as always, for your support.
Mark, making suggestions will never get you banned, and you've never been anything except polite here even when you disagreed with me.
I thought of removing word verification, but then I'd receive a lot of spam comments as in the past. They wouldn't show up here, but I'd still have to delete them.
I also won't be able to sit here every day and monitor the comments, but I will check in several times a day. I do, anyway.
Sheesh. I haven't seen the ugly stuff on here of late, but I have had some of my own in the past.
Honestly, I feel sad for the bugger. Their life must be so lacking in value and self worth that it makes them feel empowered to belittle and harass others. And the fear that they portray by doing so anonymously or in anothers name, is not something I would want to live with.
*sigh*
Good for you Tech for disregarding their bid for attention, it would only fuel their fire and feed their need for validity.
Sorry this is happening to you of all people. But I must say, the forceful you is nice to see too ;)
Thanks for understanding, Michelle. Since both of us are in customer service (so to speak) I think you understand how frustrating it can be to go to work each day, deal with rude people while biting your tongue, and then have to come home and endure snide insults and profanity in an area that you thought would be safe. I won't put up with it.
Go Amber! :)
And trust me, trolls and weasels, if you don't want your ears hanging from her belt, you'd better listen to Amber. 'Cause she'll hunt you down, and I can't say ears will be all she'll take.
Ha! That's a good line, FF.
What gets me is I can't think of anything that ever appears on this blog that anyone other than a twit would find to complain about.
I guess I've been attracting twits over the past few days, ER. I need some twiticide spray or maybe a twit bomb.
The troll posted profane attacks on my poetry and humor writing. The sniders complained about the lack of depth and my refusal to "delve deep" into the issues. Apparently it offends them that Harbor Street is exactly what I intend for it to be.
I think they're young. They don't realize that I've been there, done my delving, fought my battles, read the deep books, had hours of weighty discussions, and so on. I got older, found other ways to fulfillment, and moved on. This isn't meant as a slap at anyone who hasn't made my choices in life. Each person has his/her own road to happiness to travel, but I've found mine, and I'm not going to go back.
No apologies are necessary, Tech. This blog is a refreshing change from most of the ones on the Net. You found your "niche." People who criticize it are simply jealous that they haven't been able to find theirs.
I went by the blogs of a couple of the "sniders" before you deleted their comments and found nothing worth reading. No comments, over-blown concepts poorly explained, and vulgarity for vulgarity's sake were all they were capable of producing. Both blogs were so very dull. No wonder no one visits them.
As for your poetry and your humor, I know each person is different in how he or she perceives literature, but your poetry had moved me and your humor has made me spurt Coke out of my nose! :) I want to see more of both.
Thank you so much, Gloria. I appreciate you!
*passing Gloria a napkin so she can continue to enjoy Tech's writing*
There is the key, Tech: Harbor Street is exactly what YOU intend it to be. It's your place. You determine content. It's so simple. Hang in there.
I've deleted at least one comment that made it through SpamKarma2. No. It wasn't spam, but it wasn't something consistent with the content I choose to carry on my site (a place generally appropriate for anyone in my family--to include young nieces and nephews should they be inclined, although I don't believe any family does visit). I've been fortunate so far. Everyone has behaved nicely. That could change, and I'll be sorry if it does.
And yes, word verificatino, hard as it is for me to translate most times, saves YOU a ton of spam, so I understand.
Trixie's funny! :)
Thanks for the support, Jean.
I particularly hate comment spam. I've never clicked on any of it, and I wonder who does. Someone has to or they wouldn't keep trying to sell their products that way. I've never met anyone who admitted buying something because of spam.
Beautiful photo, Amber! Can I post it here?
Ah. if we had been written by a nineteenth centry writers, he's have made us get along in the end - smugness, and - the man who had all the deep thoughts he wanted to before 40 - complacency. Alas for being unwritten.
I leave thee to scatter corn to your clucking hens. adieu. - TS
Or possibly a duel to the death bringing down kingdoms and causing the women to wail for their lost husbands and sons. Some things are better left unwritten.
Verba volant, scripta manent
I'd truly like to know what passed between TStockman and you. I bet there's a story there.
Truly, Slim, you'd be disappointed.
