Now I have an eighty dollar air conditioner from Wal-Mart in my bedroom window now. Ahhhh ... And a repairman is coming Thursday to look at the house's unit to see what it needs. I'm afraid it's shot, but I'm hoping it just needs some small part. I should be so lucky.
My roomie is going to tough it out until Thursday and see what the repairman says. If the repair is beyond the budget right now, he's going to get a small unit for his bedroom, and we just may make do for a while.
Anyway, I'm very tired. I haven't slept well the past few days in the heat so I'm going to go to bed now in my cool bedroom. Y'all take care and stay cool. Night!

Your roomie also likes camping, he is used to roughing it, make him sleep on the floor with out an air mattress!
Roen
We couldn't fit an air mattress into my room, FF. I have hundreds of books, magazines, pieces of electronic equipment, stacks of paper, you name it, etc. in my room. I'm going to have to get in there and cull some stuff someday soon. Of course I keep saying that, but it never happens.
I'll tell him you said that, Roen! :)
I'm glad you have an air conditioner now, Tech. This is terribly hot weather to have to suffer through without one.
Well, I don't know about making your roommate, who helped you install your new air conditioner (ahem), sleep on the hard floor, but maybe he could put a sleeping bag in there and sleep on top of it, if an air mattress is too big. Mom said it was going to get to 107 there!
Or..I've seen your roommate..if the heat is still a problem when I move back, he can stay with me until things cool off. Or the heat wave passes...whichever comes first. :)
I pity all those people who don't have one, Gloria. The library in our town is always filled during hot or cold weather as people escape nature.
FF, I'll do my own culling! He might throw out some of my treasures. :)
Crystal, if my roomie wanted the floor, he could have it anytime. He says he's fine with several fans.
I'm be sure to pass your ... kind offer on to him.
Ha...I am not going to comment on the roomie switchin partners...
But, I am surprised at the cost of the a/c unit. I always thought they were super spendy. Hmmm...gives me some ideas!
Why didn't I think of that? I could've saved $2,020!
ha.
Woohoo! Cool air and a peaceful nights sleep. =0}
Michelle, Wal-Mart has several models below $150. This one was the cheapest, but it's doing amazingly well. I've been impressed. Admittedly it only has to cool one room, but I had to turn it down because it was making the room too cold!
ER, since I purchased this window unit, I've discovered a lot of people who have central air also have an unit or two. Usually for their bedroom or an add-on that doesn't have central air vents. A lot of people close up their unused rooms and only cool the part of the house they most commonly use.
A good night's sleep is an underrated good thing, Rain. One of the reasons I'm attempting to lose weight is that I hope that it will allow me to sleep better.
