Sick

I'm so sick and upset that I can barely think. I did something so stupid that I may have permanently lost my right to consider myself as bright. Wait 'til you hear what I did.
I lost a flash drive. A flash drive that contained three weeks of writing on Murder by the Acre. A flash drive that I hadn't backed up once -- NOT EVEN ONCE -- during those three weeks.
I feel like throwing up. I and my roomie tore my house, office and car apart looking for it. I called every place I've been at since I discovered it lost, hoping that it had been turned into their lost-and-found. No luck.
And I know better. I KNOW BETTER. YOU ALWAYS BACK UP DATA DAILY. BACK UP DATA DAILY! But I apparently don't have the brains that God gave gravel. So I have to lose three weeks of work. THREE WEEKS OF WORK BECAUSE I'M NOT SMART ENOUGH TO BACK UP DAILY.
I'm not talking to me for a while.

I'm so sorry! I hope it turns up soon. Will this keep you from publishing MBTA in January?

Oh Tech, there, there. It is going to be OK. Youll either find it and be deliriously happy, or you will rewrite and it will be better than what you've already done. It's going to be OK. (((pat, pat)))

No, Gloria, I should still be able to manage that. But it does take out some days off there I had scheduled. It won't -- I think -- take me three weeks recreate what was there since I mostly remember it, but it is lost time when I didn't have a lot to lose. I'm also not sure now if I can participate in National Novel Writing Month in November, which I had been looking forward to.

Thanks for the support and the pats, Trixie.

I'm sorry, too! I have to say that's one thing that makes me nervous about thumb drives. The smaller something is, the easier it is to lose. :(

Maybe it's in an odd place. DS couldn't find his specialized earphones to his cell phone. I found them this morning in the shoe box his new sneakers came in. Worse, I then remembered it was me that put them there two days ago!

{{{Hugs!}}}

Tech,
Pray, ask God to show you where it is. It really does work. I know, I am really bad about losing things. Let me know how it works out.

My sweet Heavenly Father, help Tech find this. Lord make it know unto him. In Jesus Name Amen.
:-)

FF, I've looked in very strange places, including my fridge. (I was retracing my steps in my house, and I had bent over to get some lettuce and tomatoes out of the crisper and it could have fallen in there, but it didn't, of course.) Last night I started recreating what I had written. It will take about five days or so I think. I'd spend all Saturday on doing that, but I will be at my town's Autumn Days with a table on the sidewalk trying to sell MBDD.

Jeannie, prayer is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion and support.

I did a standard dummy thing about a year ago. I lost my harddrive (it had gotten parked in front of a radiator - another duh!) and all of my family pictures from 2001-2005. I wasn't talking to myself for weeks!

I'm sorry Tech. I'm sure you've checked your dirty clothes basket, so I won't even suggest checking pockets.

I hope it turns up soon, but I recommend capturing everything you can remember in the interim.

Hugs.

Suzanne, my heart goes out to you. What a loss.

Jean, I've started rewriting and recreating what I've lost. Fortunately I know it was confined to the first three chapters so I don't have to search for corrections and edits over the whole book. It sure would be nice, though, if it turned up today.

Actually, It's St Anthony you should be asking for help to find your thumb drive. He is the patron saint of lost items. He's helped me in the past to find things I had mislaid.

Tony, Tony, look around.
Something's lost and must be found.

It usually works for me, too.

I'm sorry Tech. I hpe your are able to find it, and if not then I hope you find your words speedy and with swift hand. Don't be too hard on yourself, there is reason for everything. :)
