I've spent all today working on my family newsletter. It's about half done. I'm hoping to finish tomorrow night, but it probably won't be until Tuesday night. Anyway, I'm beat and going to call it a night. I hope you have a great week.
We had a lot of fun at the hockey game. It was my first one and I wasn't really sure what to expect. It was loud, musical, there were lots of fights and beer flowed like -- like something that flows alot. I wasn't sure if I was at a hockey game or a bar back home north of Muldrow. Then I remembered the bars back home didn't have ice rinks in them, so I knew where I was at then.
I don't think I'll become a Blazer fan, though. In fact, I found myself rooting for the other team. They were much better at actually playing hockey. They set up stratgies and plays and handled the puck better. The Blazers' strategy seemed to be to start fights with the other teams' best players so they'd all get thrown in the penalty box. I guess it worked though because the Blazers won.
Are all hockey fans so rude? Every time our team tripped someone or got took a cheap shot at another player behind the ref's back, they laughed and cheered. I was starting to feel like I was in a Roman colisium (?) or something. Since there weren't that many fans (I saw one) for the Memphis Riverkings, I don't know if it's common or just us.
Anyway, best hockey moment was when one of the Memphis Riverkings skated up right to where we were sitting. He and one of the Blazers mutually shoved each other into the glass below us and then the Blazer skated off. Standing in her seat in front of the action was a little 4 year old girl, who put up her hand and shyly waved at the Memphis Riverking. He saw her, and you could seem him melt. He let his tough, macho face slip away long enough to smile and wink at her. Then he skated off. I think that may have been when I really started rooting for the Memphis Riverkings. But quietly and to myself, because I didn't want to be ripped apart by the fans sitting around me.
And, now, Tech, do you realize my comment was much longer than your post? You need to do something about that! :) (And don't shorten my comment, either. That's not what I meant.)
Does anyone know what "icing" means in a hockey game? Apparently that happened a lot in the game and I don't know what that is.
Icing - It is when both teams have an even number on the ice, and one player hits the puck from behind the center line (their side of the ice) and it crosses the other teams goal line but doesn't make it into the goal.
